Increasing absorption rate of post ‘O’ and ‘A’ level students in Zimbabwe; (addressing policy 2.3 and 2.1)

This programme aims to increase the enrolment in HTEs to absorb more “O” level graduates to reduce unemployment of youths in Zimbabwe. These post “O” level graduates will acquire technical, vocational, entrepreneurial and teaching skills which will make them productive and add to the economic growth of the country. The number of qualified, skilled and competent artisans, technicians, technologists and teachers for decent work and employment creation will be increased.

Activities:

  1. Recruitment to Apprenticeship programme, for January 2019 intake;
  2. Establishment of United College of Education (UCE) Ntabazinduna campus. 

Progress to date

  • Enrolment increased by 10% at Polytechnics and Teachers colleges in January 2018.

  • The 10% enrolment increase in September was implemented in Teachers colleges.

  • Apprenticeship programme resuscitated.

  • Enrolment in universities was increased by 20%.
